5/18 New Releases

Hi everyone.

Hope you’ve been enjoying your week so far. The remainder of the week for me was (luckily) less eventful and we even managed to finish up decorating my daughter’s bedroom. Just the “junk” to replace now – I plan to downsize her cuddly toy collection whilst she is at school today – what she won’t know won’t hurt her right ? Failing that, I’ll just end up stuffing it all in her Zoo – which in my opinion is the single most brilliant invention of all time … check this out :

5/16 Sneak Peek and a chance to win

Hi Everybody

So sorry this is a little late this week – I had a bit of a rough day yesterday as my furbaby had to be put to sleep. I’d had her for 18 years so it was difficult to say the least.

Anyway, here is your sneak peek :

Something new is coming to each of my stores ! To be in with a chance of winning both packs, just leave me a comment on this blog post. I’ll be back on Friday for the full reveal and to announce the winner.

I’m off to spend some time with hubby – it’s our 14th wedding anniversary today (I even got a card this year !!)

Enjoy your day !

Spring Cleaning – Purging your files

I don’t know about you, but every year, I love to go through my house and do some major spring cleaning.  I start in one part of the house and donate or throw out the old stuff that is causing clutter.  I do the same spring cleaning with my computer and EHD.  My rule is, if I haven’t used it in 6-9 months, I probably won’t use it at all, so I get rid of it.  I usually do this type of purging right before all the major sales that happen a few times a year in the digi-community.  I also like to get rid of a few older kits if I am going to buy a new kit or two.

You may also find that as your scrapping style evolves, you may need to purge some of your old stuff to make room for your  new style.  For me, keeping my stash to a minimum helps me find the kit I am looking for when my mojo is in full gear.

Happy Purging!

Sunday School: Making Scallops

Happy Mother’s Day! To celebrate Mom, I thought I’d show you how to do something a little girly & fun on your layouts: scallops! And it’s actually pretty easy! I’m using Photoshop CS3, but it should work in all Photoshop versions, and hopefully other programs.

You can make your scallops directly on your layout (just make sure you are on a new layer). This is easier, since you can get the size of your scallop perfect compared to everything else on your layout. In my screenshots, I made the scallops on a new canvas, just to show you what it will look like without the distraction of all my pics and elements. :)

First, open the Brushes window. To do this, go to Windows –> Brushes. Or, if you love shortcuts like I do, just hit F5. Then, select a HARD brush, like I did here. (Click to see full image)

Then, select the diameter of the brush. This will determine the size of each scallop. So if you want lots of small scallops, choose a small diameter. If you want just a few larger scallops, choose a large diameter. Here I chose 200px, which I find to be a medium sized scallop. But it’s entirely up to you! You can play around with it, and see what looks best on your layout.

Then, select the spacing. This will make your brush go from just a straight line, as in the above screencap, to the scallop we all know and love! The larger the number, the more scallop-y (not a word, lol, I know!) it will look. 95% seems to be a good number, though you can always play around with this as well to get the look you want.

Now, hold SHIFT (so your scallop will stay straight) and click and drag to form the scallop (Click to see full image)

And that’s it!! Just put it under a picture or paper so you only see one half of the chain of circles you made, so it will look like a scallop. You can see why it’s even easier if you do it right on the layout, so you can get the start and stop points just right. Here’s how my scallop looks when I did it on my layout. (Click to see full image)

And after clipping a paper to it and shadowing the scallop, here’s my final layout

GSO Saturday 5/12

Happy Saturday and a Happy Mother’s Day to all those celebrating this weekend! I’m glad to be showing you some new pages today after all the excitement of NSD. I haven’t even begun to unzip my stuff yet…fun weekend activity, though!

My first GSO choice this week is lil masterpiece by Athena using a Bigger Picture template. The large black and white pregnancy picture is so cute with the frame positioned over it, and that is a great title! The metal letters look nice with all the black and white papers and elements. I like the mix of paper and realistic elements.

Next up is Be Yourself by EllenT using a Mish Mash Vol. 1 template. This is beautiful! I love the wood grain paper and the greens and yellows with it. Such a lovely color family! The title quote is awesome, and I really like how the lace and banners look with their shadowing.

This week’s third GSO is U&Me by MrsFinn using an Effervescent template. This is really a looker with the large blended photo on the white background paper. The pictures are really sweet and I love the colors and papers she used on the layers.  There are great shadows on those layers too!

And finally, this stunner called True Colors from litabells using a Shout it Out template. Wow! The colors, the layers, the shadows!! The SHOES! The title looks wonderful and the patterns are all so perfect for what she’s talking about in that inspirational journaling. What a great story…and it’s PERFECTLY told here!

Okay everybody, great job! Congratulations on these four lovely pages and be sure to stop by at the end of the month to see our May Layout of the Month winner. Hope you have a great week!

5/11 New Releases

Happy Friday ! I hope you’ve all had a good week. We bought my daughter a new wardrobe so obviously that meant her whole bedroom needs redecorating so I’ve spent a lot of this week knee deep in paint. Thankfully the painting is pretty much done and we just need to lay her floor before we can evict her from our bedroom :)

As per usual, there’s the little matter of my Sneak Peek winner to announce before I move on – congrats to Rachel ! I will be sending you your coupon shortly.

I have two brand new template packs to show you this week – both in my store at Scrap Orchard.

I know a lot of you love the multi photo templates so here’s one for you – Barley Water – with between 6 and 12 photo spots.

My second pack is for those of you who prefer a lot less photo spaces :) Check out Oops a daisy.
